Therapists Beyond Borders (TBB) is seeking a passionate, goal-oriented chairperson to lead the board of directors in achieving TBB’s mission. Serving as a key leader of the organization, the chairperson is the primary liaison between the board and the executive director. Core responsibilities include governance, strategic planning, fundraising, chairing board meetings, setting agendas, overseeing executive director performance evaluations, and fostering a collaborative, productive board environment that ensures optimal board performance for mission achievement and a growth in impact.
The Board of Directors provide high-level oversight and governance to the organization. The main role of the board is to ensure that the organization’s operations and functions align with its mission, vision, and core values.
The ideal chairperson is a driven and creative self-starter who is energized by opportunities to grow a small organization through developing networks and securing resources that lead to increased impact. Candidates must have a genuine passion for TBB’s mission of empowering disability communities globally and understand the importance of local sustainability for humanitarian work. This position requires exceptional commitment to the organization, first-rate leadership qualities, and personal integrity. The ideal chairperson would combine organizational skills with advanced facilitation and engagement techniques, developing strong relationships with the executive director, their fellow board members, and key stakeholders.
This is an unpaid role, with a minimum commitment of two years, in accordance with the terms in the organization’s bylaws. Requirements include quarterly virtual board meetings and an annual $2,500 “give or get” fundraising requirement. This may be fundraised or personally contributed.
The chairperson works closely with the executive director for strategic planning and growth of the organization, while leading the board of directors for implementation of board initiatives in accordance with TBB’s mission, vision, and values. The leadership of the chairperson and the executive director, though having demonstrably different roles, reinforce and support each other. Each has their own responsibilities — the executive director leads the organization and the chairperson leads the board — but they meet regularly to support, consult, and complement each other.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis through March 1, 2026.
